Groundworks is seeking a talented Compensation Analyst to join our tribe in Virginia Beach, VA! 

The Compensation Analyst develops, maintains, and analyzes the organization’s job descriptions, classifications, and compensation structures to ensure equitable, competitive, and compliant pay practices. This role involves gathering and interpreting internal job and organizational data as well as external market compensation information to establish appropriate salary ranges and job classifications. The Compensation Analyst advises management on regulatory compliance and best practices related to employee compensation, supports organizational goals by designing competitive pay programs, and provides clear, data-driven reports and recommendations to guide compensation decisions.   

 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  •  Prepares and maintains job descriptions for each position in the organization; ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents.

  • Conducts interviews and surveys of employees and managers to gather and document job, organizational, and occupational information including duties, responsibilities, and skills required by each job.

  • Assesses jobs and their respective duties to determine classification as exempt or nonexempt and appropriate salary range.

  • Benchmarks jobs against salary survey data and other market intelligence to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position.

  • Prepares and maintains job classifications and salary grades.

  • Prepares and presents summary reports of job analysis and compensation analysis information.

  • Gathers data from market-based compensation surveys; uses spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends.

  • Plans and communicates preferred methods and best practices for compensating and evaluating positions for overtime eligibility status.

  • Advises management on applicable state and federal employment regulations regarding pay and compensation policies, human resource procedures, and collective agreements.

  • It is an essential function of this job that the employee regularly and reliably reports to work on time each working day.

  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.

     

Qualifications 

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required. Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CCP – Certified Compensation Professional) preferred.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in compensation analysis, job evaluation, or related HR functions. Experience conducting job interviews and surveys for analysis purposes is preferred.

    · Strong understanding of compensation principles, job classification systems, and salary structures.

  • Familiarity with FLSA and other federal/state employment regulations related to compensation and overtime eligibility.

  • Proficiency in analyzing market-based compensation surveys and benchmarking data.

  • Skilled in preparing and maintaining job descriptions and classifications.

  • Ability to conduct detailed job analyses and present findings in clear, actionable reports.

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with HRIS and compensation management systems.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

 

Physical Requirements 

  • The Compensation Analyst will be in an office environment with no required travel. The role is in person.

  • This position is predominantly sedentary.
