Compensation Business Partner

About the Role

A fast-growing, Series D/E AI and legal technology company is hiring a Compensation Business Partner to join its People team. In this high-visibility role, you'll work directly with leaders across the Engineering, Product & Design (EPD) organization on all things compensation — helping the company attract, engage, and retain world-class talent in one of the most competitive markets in tech.

You'll serve as the go-to advisor for executives, hiring managers, and recruiters, ensuring compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and clearly understood. This is a hybrid role based in either San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY, with at least three days per week in-office to stay closely embedded with EPD teams.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Leaders: Serve as a trusted advisor to EPD leaders, guiding compensation decisions that balance market competitiveness, internal equity, and long-term impact — including offers, promotions, and pay adjustments.

  • Enable Recruiting: Partner with recruiters to build compelling, market-aligned offers that help land top candidates; provide training, tools, and coaching so recruiters and hiring managers can confidently discuss compensation and equity.

  • Drive Market Insights: Analyze compensation data to set and refine salary and equity ranges, keeping programs competitive and grounded in current market intelligence.

  • Design & Manage Programs: Support the design and ongoing administration of compensation programs — including salary bands, equity grants, and bonus structures — tailored to a high-growth technology environment.

  • Simplify Complexity: Translate compensation data and program details into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Experience designing or managing compensation programs (salary ranges, equity, bonuses) within a technology or high-growth scale-up environment

  • Strong data analysis and modeling skills — comfortable managing compensation data, building salary bands, and analyzing equity/bonus programs

  • Demonstrated ability to partner and collaborate effectively with Engineering, Product & Design leaders on compensation matters

  • Ability to work on-site in the San Francisco or New York City office at least three days per week

  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (visa sponsorship is not available for this role)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in a People/HR function at a rapidly scaling AI or enterprise software company

  • Familiarity with equity compensation mechanics and how to communicate them to candidates and employees

  • Track record of building scalable compensation processes from an early stage

Location

  • Hybrid — San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY

  • Minimum three days per week in-office required

  • No visa sponsorship available
