Pillsbury’s Tax Business Unit is seeking a high-performing associate with 2-3 years of experience to join its nationally recognized Executive Compensation & Benefits Practice Group. This role offers flexibility in location, with opportunities to be based in Austin, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Silicon Valley. The ideal candidate will have experience advising public and private employers, including start-ups, on a broad range of executive compensation and benefits matters, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, including Section 280G analysis, financings and initial public offerings, executive hires and terminations, stock compensation plans and award agreements, nonqualified deferred compensation (Section 409A), ERISA and group benefits compliance, and public company reporting and disclosure obligations.
We are seeking an associate who exercises sound judgment, delivers consistently excellent work product, and builds trusted professional relationships. A proactive approach, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to client service are essential to success in this role.
Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with attorneys across offices to deliver exceptional client service in a fast-paced environment.
Communicate clearly and effectively – both orally and in writing – with clients on highly sophisticated and complex matters.
Demonstrate flexibility and initiative, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Qualifications include:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent; an LL.M. will be considered in lieu of a J.D.
Prior or current experience at an Am Law 100 firm.
Excellent academic credentials.
Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
Thorough understanding of professional ethics and conduct standards.
Admission to, and good standing with, the bar in the jurisdiction(s) where you will practice.

California Pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on skillset and experience, is $235k - $260k.
