The primary responsibility of the Classification & Compensation Analyst is responsible for conducting classification/compensation studies, providing consultation and technical assistance regarding organizational design and internal equity issues, training management on new and existing human resources programs, processing required organizational and salary actions, special projects as assigned and serves as the back-up for the Employee Relations Specialist.

Job responsibilities include the following:
  • Conduct classification/compensation studies evaluating and analyzing job duties and organizational needs to develop recommendations regarding classification and salary administration.
  • Consult with management on position and organizational design.
  • Interpret human resources policies for employees and management.
  • Use of HRIS system including initiating personnel and position actions, as well as generating reports and analyzing data.
  • Serve as a liaison with DHHS HR on classification/compensation initiatives and department-wide and/or state projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of job evaluation and compensation data to prepare clear and concise written reports and findings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing to develop technical and policy-based analytical reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the application of federal employment laws as it relates to job evaluation and compensation.
  • Demonstrated ability to use HRIS applications to review, monitor and report human resources transactions.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build working relationships with stakeholders and customers. 
Management Preferences:
  • Knowledge of North Carolina State Government policies regarding classification and salary administration.
  • Experience with the Integrated HR/Payroll System (Beacon)

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor s degree, typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience required;
or
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience.
