Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $101,125.00 - $155,000.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

Compensation Manager

Overview:

Hospital for Special Surgery seeks an experienced and self-directed Compensation Manager. This role contributes to the planning, design, implementation, communication, administration, and maintenance of compensation programs, policies and practices aimed at enabling the hospital to recruit and retain the best talent. This person will work on the hospital's compensation programs and processes including market reviews, survey participation, salary structure development, job evaluation, annual processes, compliance with regulations, etc. This role provides support on various Compensation projects and activities on an as needed basis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts regular market analyses and performs detailed compensation reviews to determine competitive positioning, salary structure movement, salary increase budgets, geographic cost of labor differentials, and overall compensation trends to maintain competitive market position. Conducts modeling of compensation plans to determine financial impact.
  • Develops, maintains, and ensures consistent application of compensation processes and tools including salary structures, job descriptions, job evaluations, market analysis/pricing, salary administration, etc.
  • Acts as subject matter expert and assists HR and managers with compensation-related decisions, such as job offers, promotions, and organizational changes.
  • Supports all phases of the annual merit cycle process (base pay and annual incentive plans).
  • Supports designing and executing communication plans to ensure employees understand their compensation, addressing employee questions, and providing training to managers on pay-related topics.
  • Ensures organizational compliance with all Federal and State employment laws, including but not limited to, FLSA, NY Wage Theft Prevention Act, NYC Pay Transparency, CT Wage Range Disclosure Guidance, NYC Minimum Wage, and other Wage and Hour Laws.
  • Partners with HR Technology in updating pay structures and compensation data in Workday. Supports the implementation of new modules in Workday, including Advanced Compensation and other technology enhancements.
  • Oversees various projects and activities related to HR and Compensation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Five years (5) of progressive experience in compensation. Healthcare-related experience preferred.
  • World at Work Certified Compensation Professional preferred.
  • Knowledge of Workday Compensation required; Advanced Compensation module preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of job architecture and career frameworks.
  • Experience with the administration of annual incentive plans.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state wage and salary laws and regulations.
  • Analytical, problem solving, planning, and decision-making skills with a creative ability to identify and resolve issues and find solutions.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task and change priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Promotes innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Detail-oriented professional.
