Compensation Manager – EUROPE
In this role, a typical day will include:
- Develop proposals to successfully attract, engage, and retain top talent for Alcon Europe, including, but not limited to, job level validation/calibration, international transfer offers, off-cycle adjustments, and custom action plans for targeted associate groups
- Conduct periodic country pay competitiveness health checks/heatmaps to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop business cases for exceptional compensation actions, e.g., during periods of hyperinflation, conflict, or transformations.
- Collaborate with broader Total Rewards teams on annual deliverables for PGR, pay equity adjustments, benefits reviews, survey participation.
- Own annual review of country pay ranges, optimizing available market data
- Prepare ELT approval requests for senior roles below Executive levels (“ATL”)
- Contribute to design of Compensation training content to better resonate with European audiences. Deliver education sessions as needed.
- Partner with Employee Relations on pay equity audits, ad hoc reporting, external certifications, and matters of interest to Works Councils.
- Participate in global HR transformation, HR systems implementation, and/or M&A projects as needed
- Ensure consistent implementation of global Compensation Guidelines and Governance
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
Experience & Expertise:
- About 8 years’ Compensation or Total Rewards experience with a multi-country scope, preferrably including support for Manufacturing and/or R&D operations in countries with strong works councils presence, e.g., Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, etc.
Technical, Analytical, & Communication:
- Demonstrated experience with compensation pillars (salary planning, market pay data, survey management)
- Proficiency with global job evaluation methodologies such as IPE, Global Grading, or Hay
- Proficiency with data analysis, reporting, and simulation tools (Excel, Mercer WIN, AirLinc, etc)
- Knowledge of HR systems and compensation automation tools (Workday, SAP, Success Factors, etc)
Consultancy/Advisory:
- Understands how macroeconomics, taxation, and government mandates shape pay expectations
- Understands business fundamentals and the value-adding activities of all functions
- Keeps abreast on European workforce trends and laws for Alcon to proactively adapt and comply
- Able to facilitate Compensation/Total Rewards education sessions and respond to questions convincingly
