Compensation Analyst

Summary:

The Workers’ Compensation Analyst is responsible for overseeing the administration of designated Third-Party Administrator (TPA) for workers’ compensation claims which includes claims reporting, investigating, reserving, subrogation, and litigation as related to such claims.  Analyzes information and works within guidelines of Corporate Insurance and Risk Management Department. Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures and guidelines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees workers' compensation claim management and works closely with TPA to be sure desired claim handling and reserving practice are being followed.  Reviews and monitors reserves and payments.  Provides limited reserve authority.
  • Oversees litigated and complex claims, including limited settlement authority.  Assigns and works with outside defense counsel for litigation and strategy.  Attends some mediations virtually.
  • Coordinates internally as appropriate for accident reporting, investigation, video capture and work status.  Works regularly with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, Legal, Leave of Absence, and Payroll.
  • Review claims for evidence of questionable compensability and assists in investigating potentially fraudulent/questionable claims.  Creates and develops relationships with claims adjusters and supervisors, broker, carriers, defense counsel, in-house legal team, and other claims related parties.
  • Determine objectives for quarterly claim reviews with a focus on results.  Conduct ongoing post-review progress monitoring.
  • Special projects as needed.

Education and Experience:

Education: Bachelors/4-year degree
Years of relevant work experience: 2+ years 

Specific Knowledge and skills:

  • Demonstrates proven analytical, problem solving and investigative skills.
  • Demonstrates proven understanding of appropriate negotiation skills.
  • Sound judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, or government (Federal or State) law.
  • Independent judgment, a high level of confidentiality, and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent time management skills to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
