Job Title: Benefits and Compensation Specialist
Department:  Personnel Supervision
Reports to: Director Benefits and Compensation
Location: St. Louis, MO at the Corporate Office in Westport Plaza. 
FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervises: None

General Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Compensation and Benefits Specialist to join our HR team. The Benefits and Compensation Specialist will be responsible for administering comprehensive total reward programs, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic goals and compliance with regulations.  Additionally, they will collect, compile, and analyze HR data, metrics, and statistics, and apply this data to make data-driven recommendations related to total reward programs.  This role will enjoy a mix of employee-facing interactions, behind-the-scenes systems work, and creative communication. A proactive mindset and commitment to excellence are key to success in this role! 

Compensation

  • Conduct market research and benchmarking to ensure competitive compensation packages.
  • Assist in designing, implementing, administering compensation structures, incentive programs and other compensation plans that attract and retain talent and maintain internal equity and consistency across the company.
  • Support the annual merit and bonus incentive plan compensation cycle.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing and maintaining job descriptions and job architecture. 
  • Oversee periodic audits to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as company policies.

Benefits

  • Oversee daily benefits administration related to health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, HSA, ancillary), workers compensation, employment status changes, claims, 401k retirement, leaves of absence and compliance testing.
  • Serve as a resource for HR team members and employees for benefits-related inquiries and issues and identify solutions for complex issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to benefits.
  • Assist with organizing and running wellness programs, employee events, engagement activities, and recognition initiatives.
  • Conduct HR surveys, help summarize employee feedback and propose improvements.
  • Create clear and engaging communications for benefit-related activities, including but not limited to Annual Enrollment and Wellness Initiatives to drive engagement.
  • Partner closely with payroll to ensure accurate and timely processing of employer contributions and payroll deductions.
  • Track and manage leave requests, ensuring proper documentation and timely processing in compliance with local, state and federal leave regulations. 
  • Reconcile monthly benefit carrier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain, generate and submit records, reports, documentation and required filings in compliance with federal, state, and provider regulations.
  • Oversee and maintain benefit enrollment setup in HR System.

General

  • Utilize HR data analytics to generate reports and dashboards to provide insights into compensation and benefit trends and program effectiveness.
  • Process transactions and data throughout the employee life cycle in HRIS, and ensures data integrity, security, and efficiency.
  • Create and revise process documentation to continually improve our level and quality of service.
  • Participate in total rewards projects and initiatives aimed at improving compensation, benefits, and HRIS processes. 
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in compensation, benefits and HRIS administration.
  • May assist with compilation of monthly financial reporting, forecasts and assist with budget preparation.
  • Complete special projects and perform all other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Four (4) – six (6) years of experience in benefits and compensation administration is required.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP or other professional designation is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to act with a sense of urgency, positivity and empathy.
  • Understanding of fiduciary roles and responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of various benefits-related programs, plans, and platforms.
  • Strong relationship-building skills. Able to collaborate effectively within team and across various departments.
  • Familiarity with HR Systems and Payroll/Finance processes/timelines.
  • Knowledge of employment status changes or orders that impact benefits eligibility or billing (LOA's, QLE's, QDRO's).
  • Foundational knowledge of HRIS and data-mapping to validate key data, identify areas for resolution.
  • MS Office proficiency - Intermediate to Advanced preferred (Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook).
  • Professional and thoughtful in communications - verbal and written - with all levels in and outside institution.
  • Familiar with annual reporting requirements and preparation to handle 401k Discrimination Testing, 1095, and other annual reporting/filing needs.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented. Able to multi-task in fast-paced environment. Able to work independently.
  • Able to critically think through complex problems; gathers and analyzes information skillfully and develop solutions.
  • Able to maintain strict protocols of confidential and sensitive information.
