WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a Compensation Analyst who will be instrumental in shaping a fair, competitive, and transparent compensation system for all La Joya ISD employees. This individual will support staffing efficiency, ensure alignment with TEA and TASB guidelines, and uphold budget responsibility while helping to recruit and retain top-tier talent.

This role is critical in maintaining La Joya ISD’s zero-based staffing model, supporting the annual TASB salary structure reviews, ensuring compliance with FLSA classifications, and assisting in staffing audits—including those of administrative assistants, custodial teams, paraprofessionals, and coaching assignments.

Education/ Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, Public Administration, or related field required

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of Texas public school compensation practices, including TEA minimum salary schedules and TASB recommendations
  • Proficiency in Excel (including pivot tables, lookup functions, and charts), Frontline ERP, and HRIS platforms
  • Ability to conduct FLSA reviews and develop classification justifications
  • Excellent analytical, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of staffing formulas, contract days, and position control

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in compensation analysis, HR analytics, or related field
  • Experience with TASB pay structure implementation and public sector compensation preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain and revise the district’s pay grade tables, stipend schedules, and extra-duty pay structures
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department to ensure position control and budget accuracy
  • Lead compensation alignment reviews for all job description changes, reclassifications, and new role proposals
  • Assist in the annual TASB salary study and compensation updates

  

Data Review & Salary Administration

  • Analyze compensation data for equity, competitiveness, and internal alignment
  • Process salary changes for reclassifications, promotions, demotions, lateral moves, and adjustments
  • Calculate salaries using La Joya ISD’s step scale and calendar conversion methodology
  • Validate salaries for new hires, substitute placement, and mid-year staffing changes

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate talent development coordinators, specialists, and assigned support staff
  • Provide leadership and guidance to campus-based mentors, instructional coaches, and leadership development facilitators

Classification & Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate records of job descriptions and ensure alignment with FLSA standards and Board policy
  • Review and classify positions as exempt or non-exempt in compliance with federal and state guidelines
  • Partner with HR leaders to conduct internal audits and respond to open records requests regarding pay equity

Strategic Support & Communication:

  • Develop and present data summaries to support cabinet-level decisions on restructuring, staffing reductions, and program changes
  • Serve as a technical advisor for department heads and principals regarding compensation concerns
  • Provide salary verifications and participate in priority job fairs, staffing events, and Board work sessions
  • Support rollouts of annual employment contracts, compensation plans, and districtwide salary notices

 Working Environment:

  • Standard office setting in the Human Capital & Talent Development Department
  • Frequent interaction with campus principals, directors, and finance staff
  • May require occasional travel between campuses and administrative offices
