Compensation Specialist

Henley Enterprises, Inc., Henley Pacific LLC, and associated entities are privately-owned Franchisees of Valvoline Instant Oil Change (VIOC), currently operating over 265 VIOC locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Florida, and California. The Company is seeking to fill the new position of Compensation Specialist. This is a full-time, exempt role with hybrid (office and work from home) arrangement, based out of the Newton, MA main office or Irvine, CA west coast office. The position reports to the Director, HR Operations and works closely with the Henley HR Leadership team as well as operations and appropriate Company stakeholders. This position will work out of our Irvine, CA office. 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Compensation Specialist helps develop and manage the Company’s pay structures, salary benchmarking, and incentive programs to ensure competitive, equitable, and compliant compensation planning and administration, including analyzing market trends, evaluating and updating job descriptions, and designing pay programs to attract and retain quality talent.  Starting pay is $120,000 - $125,000 per year bared on experience. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Review compensation surveys and trends to ensure market pay competitiveness.
  • Develop and maintain salary matrixes and pay ranges based on the Company’s compensation philosophy and structure.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions and job architecture.
  • Analyze position responsibilities to determine appropriate classification and compensation.
  • Lead or support annual compensation cycles, including merit increases, bonus programs, and long-term incentives.
  • Ensure programs comply with federal, state, and local labor laws (e.g., FLSA).
  • Create reports, dashboards, and analytical models for senior management.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to provide guidance on compensation decisions.
  • Participate in compensation surveys, conduct ongoing research and analysis on market competitiveness, pay equity, and compensation trends.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Competencies

  • High proficiency in data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas) and solid MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Teams. Strong HR Information Systems (HRIS) experience: UKG People Analytics, Salary.Com CompAnalyst and JobArchitect experience a plus.
  • Self-driven and self-sufficient, works effectively with minimal daily supervision.
  • Ability to earn credibility and respect from Company and industry peers.
  • Effective organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Clear, effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Operates with high integrity and professionalism; maintains confidentiality of sensitive pay and workforce information.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 4+ years of compensation administration/analytics experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business, or a related field or a combination of experience and credentials such as Compensation Analyst Credential (CAC) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP).
  • Deep understanding of compensation principles, job evaluation methods, and FLSA regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present data-driven information and recommendations to leadership. 

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is in a climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, see, talk, and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may incidentally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch, lift weight, or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
  • Occasional overnight or multi-day travel to other regions may be required.
