Compensation Specialist

Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, the Senior Compensation Specialist will collaborate with various partners to advance the transformation of the compensation practice. This valued member of a highly nimble and transformative HR team will add value to the organization through the design, implementation, and administration of compensation programs. 

This is a temporary, full-time role providing parental leave coverage for a term of approximately 18 months.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement with the opportunity to work remotely up to 2 days per week. A fully remote arrangement may be considered for the right applicant.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. This temporary position is eligible for extended health benefits.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct market research, participate in salary surveys, collect hourly wage information, and analyze data to ensure compensation programs remain competitive.
  • Evaluate jobs using the Hay methodology, documenting rationale and ensuring internal equity.
  • Provide guidance on job description writing and complete job description reviews. 
  • Use knowledge of positions and structure within SMS Equipment to share insights on compression, layers, and related structural anomalies.
  • Support vendor-led compensation projects with expert insight and recommendations.
  • Assist with Pay Equity and Pay Transparency reporting.
  • Support ad-hoc requests from stakeholders to build reports and analyze data, either compensation or total rewards analysis.

What you bring:

This position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in compensation, with progressive knowledge in all compensation-related and data analysis areas. The successful incumbent will also possess a degree or diploma in business, human resources, data analytics or a related field.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Experience with Hay Methodology is required
  • Compensation Certification (e.g. CCP, GRP, ACCP) considered an asset
  • Intermediate Excel skills, using data from multiple sources (e.g.: VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Proficiency as an admin HRIS user (experience with UKG Pro a definite asset)
  • Experience as a user with third party market data platforms (e.g., Korn Ferry Pay, Wynford, ERI, Mercer)
  • Solid business acumen and the ability to effectively navigate various levels of the organization through the application of HR expertise and effective relationship management
  • Excellent communication, writing and collaboration skills (in English) with the ability to work within a team and individually. Bilingual in English and French an asset, but not required.
