Job Summary (basic description)

The Senior Manager of Compensation is responsible for leading compensation planning and execution for assigned functional areas.    The Senior Manager of Compensation develops, and implements base and incentive compensation programs, policies and procedures that align with the firm’s overall competitive strategy. This position is also responsible for ensuring the firm’s compensation programs are equitably and consistently administered.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the implementation and administration of compensation programs.
  • Lead the annual compensation survey participation, benchmarking process, and market data analysis. Continually advances firm benchmarking approach focusing on appropriate competitive peer group.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommend changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and firm objectives.
  • Analyze US market data and trends and recommend updates to our current compensation programs
  • Provide advice on pay decisions, policy interpretations, and job evaluations.
  • Develop techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data.
  • Oversee the participation in salary surveys and monitor salary survey data to ensure compensation objectives are achieved.
  • Manage the annual compensation process, including budget proposal, base pay, and multiple bonus programs.  Propose guidelines and prepare projections for budget forecasting in collaboration with CHRO and Finance as needed. Develop timelines, communications and training programs.
  • Provide analytical support to evaluate plan effectiveness, metrics, and reporting.
  • Apply critical reasoning to recommend problem- solving solutions.
  • Collaborate with talent acquisition, providing insights and recommendations on compensation matters that both support business goals and ensure market competitiveness to develop competitive offer packages for external hires.
  • Coordinate with the compensation team to prepare summary materials and reporting for the Compensation Committee and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations including min wage requirements and pay equity.

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Strong interpersonal skills, leading teams, and collaborating between teams both within the talent function and outside.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem solving ability.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to communicate effectively with attorneys and staff. 
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Exceptional Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Experience using Workday for compensation administration is required.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline required. Master’s Degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant compensation experience, including leadership and management experience is required.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation desired.
  • Experience working in a specialized services industry such as legal or financial services is strongly preferred.

For New York, the expected salary range for this position is between $165,000 and $185,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
