About the Role

As a key member of the Human Resources team, the Total Rewards Manager will be responsible for implementing, and administering comprehensive total rewards strategies—including compensation, benefits, and employee education programs—that align with the organization's mission, financial position, and talent goals.  This leader will also play a pivotal role in shaping the organization's compensation framework, optimizing benefits, and advancing our employee value proposition (EVP).  This role ensures employees are informed, valued, and supported through clear, equitable, and engaging reward programs.  This position will lead one Specialist role.
 

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Compensation Strategy & Administration

  • Partner with VP HR to Design and implement a career framework and compensation level architecture across the organization.
  • Conduct market analyses to ensure competitiveness while aligning with nonprofit budget constraints.
  • Manage job evaluation processes and compensation benchmarking.
  • Oversee the annual goals and rewards and compensation cycle including merit planning, pay adjustments, and equity reviews.
  • Partner with HR leadership and finance on compensation budgeting and modeling.

Benefits Management & Employee Education

  • Oversee day-to-day benefits administration, vendor relationships, renewals, and plan design (excluding 401(k) unless determined otherwise).
  • Develop and implement a year-round employee education plan and communications calendar to drive benefits literacy and cost-effective utilization.
  • Lead open enrollment planning and execution with a focus on engagement and clarity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on health, dental, vision, life, disability, EAP, and wellness programs.

Employee Value Proposition (EVP) Development

  • Collaborate with HR and communications teams to define, articulate, and embed a compelling EVP that reflects the organization’s mission, culture, and total rewards offerings.
  • Translate EVP into tangible programs and communication strategies that attract, engage, and retain top talent.
  • Champion the alignment of total rewards with the organization's values, ensuring employees see and feel their value in meaningful ways.
  • Develop storytelling and feedback mechanisms to keep the EVP relevant, inclusive, and resonant across diverse employee populations.

Employee Communication & Engagement

  • Ensure employees are fully informed about their rewards, using accessible language and communication tools.
  • Launch educational initiatives that drive awareness of how benefits can enhance financial, physical, and emotional well-being.
  • Monitor employee satisfaction with rewards programs and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications

What We Expect from You (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with 2+ years in total rewards or compensation/benefits leadership roles.
  • Experience designing compensation frameworks or career architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits compliance, compensation practices, and data analytics.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly around benefits education and change management.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment.
  • Experience managing or coordinating payroll functions.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and benefits platforms; Paycom experience is a plus.

Note: A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered when competency in the role is demonstrated.

Compensation and Benefits

 

$80,000 – $100,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
